- Bio-diesel reduces the emission of carbon monoxide by approximately 50% and carbon dioxide by 78% on a net basis. The use of bio-diesel does not give rise to any net CO2 emission on combustion.
- Bio-diesel contains fewer aromatic hydrocarbons.
- Sulphur emissions are eliminated because bio-diesel does not contain sulphur.
- It has higher cetane rating than petrol-diesel, and therefore causes less knocking.
