Biogas from Anaerobic Digestion

"In the context of palm oil industry, anaerobic digestion (AD) is a biological process of degrading the organic materials in the POME in the absence of oxygen. The microorganisms will degrade the organic wastes in the POME through bacterial fermentation at a temperature of around 30C to 35C (mesophilic fermentation) or 55C (thermophilic fermentation), during which 60% or more of the organic materials may be converted to methane gas or biogas (www.unitrade94.hu)."

# 0.7 t effluent generated per tonne of FFB processed.
# 1 t of POME releases 28.8 MJ biogas.
