WHITHER CPO PRICES ?

  • Will crude palm oil price reach RM2,625 a tonne in the first quarter of this year?
  • An expert from LMC International believes that CPO futures can hit RM2,625 a tonne by April 2010 if CPO stocks remain tight and crude oil prices remain steady at around US$75 a barrel. However he expects the premium for CPO over crude oil prices to then return to a more 'normal' range of US$250 a tonne. However, should crude oil prices fall by US$10 a barrel, CPO futures may drop to RM2,350 a tonne within the next five months.

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF BIO-DIESEL USAGE

  • Renewable energy source.
  • Bio-diesel reduces the emission of carbon monoxide by approximately 50% and carbon dioxide by 78% on a net basis. The use of bio-diesel does not give rise to any net CO2 emission on combustion.
  • Bio-diesel contains fewer aromatic hydrocarbons.
  • Sulphur emissions are eliminated because bio-diesel does not contain sulphur.
  • It has higher cetane rating than petrol-diesel, and therefore causes less knocking.
